Severe Storms and Heat Wave to Impact Northeast U.S. Through Friday

A combination of extreme heat and severe storms is set to affect the Northeast U.S., including major cities like New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., from Thursday into Friday.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, a warm, moist air mass combined with a weak dip in the jet stream is creating instability across the region.

Why It's Important?

The primary risks include damaging wind gusts, localized flooding, large hail, and the potential for isolated tornadoes. Urban areas such as New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are particularly vulnerable to flooding due to heavy rainfall. The heat wave poses additional health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those without access to air conditioning. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has urged residents to stay hydrated, seek air-conditioned spaces, and check on neighbors. Downed trees and power lines may also disrupt travel and utilities.
